I am an academic paediatric orthopaedic surgeon with special interests in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and in particular on the etiopathogenesis. Our multidisciplinary research team have extensive collaboration internally with Nelson Tang and Winnie Chu, Qiu Yong’s group from Nanjing Gulou Hospital through our Joint Scoliosis Research Center and internationally with Utrecht group under Rene Castelein, Paris group under Wafa Skalli’s group and Montreal group under Alain Moreau with many of the studies generously supported by the Cotrel Foundation.

Our research extends from benchside to bedside; genetic, leptin to somatosensory neurophysiological and vestibular studies; EOS biplanar radiography to MRI imaging studies; epidemiological study of bone health with nutritional studies, evaluation using DXA, HR-pQCT to ultrasound scanning for radiation-free spinal assessment using different study designs, ranging from cross-sectional, longitudinal cohort studies to prospective randomized controlled trials.

I and our research team will continue to harness the latest technology and AI capability for translating research into clinical applications for the betterment of prevention, care, treatment and quality of life for our scoliosis patients.
