Created by Dr Yves Cotrel – with the support of his wife and their 8 children – in 1999, the Fondation Cotrel pour la recherche en pathologie rachidienne funds spinal disease research.

Its primary mission is to help understand the causes of scoliosis.
It supports international, multidisciplinary teams.

The Fondation Cotrel – Institut de France operates in a special way. The supported researchers get together once a year in Paris, in order to share their progress and learn from each other’s discoveries.
Donors, who are welcomed at this annual meeting, benefit from this summary of progress made..

The Scientific Advisory Board is made up of 10 members who select the projects to be supported each year. As the guarantor of ethical standards, the Board ensures regular monitoring of the teams, who also undertake to circulate information and take part in a meeting organized once a year at the Institut de France, Paris.

The Board of Directors manages the Foundation’s administrative functions and approves budgets and grants.

Supporting Research

Cotrel Foundaiton is a non-profit organization. The administrative operations are funded by a family donation managed by the Institut de France.
All donations and bequests are fully allocated to the research.
